The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released its voluntary guidelines for meth lab cleanup in August of 2009. Their guidelines consist of an examination of remediation standards, system and methods as well as material on worker safety, developing a cleanup plan and disposing of contaminated waste.
The National Survey on Drug Use and Health in 2008 shows that from 2002 to 2008, past-month use of methamphetamine declined significantly among youths aged 12 to 17, from 0.3% to 0.1%, and young adults aged 18 to 25 also reported significant declines in past-month use, from 0.6% in 2002 to 0.2% in 2008.
The use of this drug has been vastly on the increase because of its availability on the streets and the desired sensations that it produces. Today it has been move up from a class B drug to a class An and possession of this illegal drug can cause up to seven years imprisonment.
Signs of a meth overdose include hyperthermia and convulsions. If these symptoms are left untreated they can result in death for the user.
During the 1970s meth production was centered in clandestine labs throughout the Western and Southwestern United States. During this time period disputes over control of the illegal methamphetamine market became responsible for the kind of gang-related violence once restricted to the cocaine trade.
