Drugs often go by different names on the street. Some common and not so common names that methamphetamine goes by include: Batu, Bikers Coffee, Black Beauties, Chalk, Chicken Feed, Crank, Crystal, Glass, Go-Fast, Hiropon, Ice, Meth, Methlies Quick, Poor Man's Cocaine, Shabu, Shards, Speed, Stove Top, Tina, Trash, Tweak, Uppers, Ventana, Vidrio, Yaba, and Yellow Bam.
Drivers under the influence of meth are considered impaired and are dangerous to themselves and others on the road.
Amphetamines similar to meth first came to America in the 1930s. Abuse of amphetamine sulfate (Benzedrine) and dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine) pills became prevalent during the 50s and 60s. These simulant medications were commonly prescribed by physicians, primarily for weight loss at which point they begin to be diverted to the illicit market.
Meth use causes damage to the users physically, mentally and socially. They experience severe problems with their health, their emotional wellbeing and their interpersonal relationships with friends and family.
The T.V. series Breaking Bad is about a chemistry teacher who cooks meth. He justifies his actions because he is dying of lung cancer and financially bankrupt.
